Toca Kitchen Review & Guide

If you are looking for a mobile children’s game in which your children are able to cook meals for different kinds of characters, then look no further, because Toca Kitchen is exactly the game you are looking for in 2016. Toca Kitchen is an easy, friendly-looking mobile game, allowing children to learn about different kinds of ingredients, as well as allowing them to learn how to cook meals. There are several characters in the game, and each of them want a different meal, and that means you are going to have to learn how to slice, dice, cook, mix, fry and even microwave your food items.

Toca Kitchen has been developed and successfully released by game developed Toca Boca in 2016. Due to the fact they have released dozens of educational mobile games, Toca Boca has earned a Top Game Developer status on Google Play Store. Much like any other game development company, Toca Boca consists of programmers, graphics designers and marketers, who all came together in 2010, and released their first game in 2011. Toca Boca is also a part of Spin Master, which is the leading global children’s entertainment company, and together, they release top-quality games.

You can immediately tell by the screenshots and game art that Toca Kitchen is meant for young children. The description of the game also states that it should be played by children up to the age of five. Currently, Toca Kitchen is available on both Google Play Store and iOS App Store in 2016. It should be noted that the game is free on Google Play Store, but costs $2.99 on iOS App Store. Toca Kitchen is sitting on an astonishing number of ten million downloads, and with a 4 out of 5 point rating, and a 4.5 out of 5 star rating, you could say that the game is definitely worth a try in 2016!

About Toca Kitchen

Toca Kitchen requires nothing else but for you to go to the app market on your mobile device, find the game, download it and install it on your device. The game does not need to download any patches, neither does it need an internet connection to be played. At the main screen of the game, you will simply see the title “Toca Kitchen” and an orange “play” button, on which you’ll need to tap to start playing Toca Kitchen. This will take you to the character selection screen.

There are four characters in Toca Kitchen; a boy, a girl and two animal characters. One of them looks to be a cat character and the other one looks like a goat character. To select a character, all you have to do is tap on the plate corresponding to that character. After you have selected the character that you want to prepare a meal for, the cooking session of the game will start.

During your gameplay, the character that you have selected will be sitting in front of you. The goal of Toca Kitchen is to prepare a meal for that character. By swiping to the left, you will gain access to the fridge, in which you will find every ingredient in the game. By tapping and holding the ingredients, you can drag them to the plate, and release them to place them on it. You can feed your characters raw meals, but the whole aspect of Toca Kitchen is to prepare the meals.

Swiping to the left will make the kitchen appliances and tools appear. On this screen, you’ll find items such as the knife, use the blender or microwave, take out a pot or pan etc. The item that you need to use depends on the meal that you are trying to prepare. You need to keep in mind that you can prepare any meal that you want. The characters will not tell you what you should cook for them. They will only tell you if they want you to fry, boil, mix or apply another item.

Selecting an item or appliance will start the individual sessions. When you select the knife, you’ll start the cutting session. This allows you to draw lines through ingredients to cut/dice them. You can only cut ingredients a specific amount of times before they are too small to cut further. The blender in Toca Kitchen allows you to mix or puree ingredients. All you have to do is hold down the power button until you feel like all of your ingredients have reached a desired consistency.

Next to the knife and blender, there are three items that actually allow you to cook meals. You can select the pan to fry your ingredients, such as fish and meat. You can use another pan if you want to boil your vegetables. The microwave allows you to nuke your ingredients for a total of ten seconds at a time. All of these sessions make your ingredients change in appearance, quite similar to how they would change in appearance in real life. It is not possible to burn ingredients in Toca Kitchen, which is quite nice, simply because it means that children can’t fail at the game.

Ultimately, Toca Kitchen is all about learning about several different food items. You will learn about different kinds of vegetables and meats, as well as learn how to prepare a meal. The goal is not to be quick, but rather to just enjoy cooking and learn a thing or two about it. You are just going to want to try out all of the different ingredients, see what all the different kitchen items and appliances do, and see what you can prepare. This could be in the form of a realistic meal, or it could be goofy and disgusting, it all depends on you as the chef-in-training of the game.

Toca Kitchen In-game store

The great thing about Toca Kitchen is that the developers already stated in the description on Google Play Store and iOS App Store that the game does not contain any advertisements or in-game purchases. Toca Kitchen also does not have any in-game currencies, nor an in-game store where you could have used those in-game currencies to purchase in-game items. Toca Kitchen is just a child-friendly game, and does not actually try to trick the parents into spending money on trivial things. It is actually quite difficult to find children’s games that are as “clean” as this one.

The thing about Toca Kitchen, and Toca Boca as a game developer in general, is that these kinds of games also need to make money, or else the developers behind them will not be able to put bread on their tables. What I found out was that all of the mobile games by Toca Boca normally cost money, which came to me as a surprise at first, because Toca Kitchen was free for me. You will have to dish out $2.99 for each individual Toca Boca game, be it on Android or iOS, except for Toca Kitchen. This could either be a temporary promotional thing, or it could be permanent.

Cheats & Tips for Toca Kitchen

It is nearly impossible to find any websites that offers cheats or tips for Toca Kitchen, simply due to the fact that there is also a Toca Kitchen 2, which is far more popular. Another fact is that you will not find any in-game currencies, purchasable in-game items, expansions or anything similar to that in Toca Kitchen, which means that not many people will be looking to cheat in this game. Because of this fact, fake cheat websites also do not find the need to advertise fake cheat tools.

Why do I say that there are fake cheat websites with fake cheat tools? That is a good question, and one that I can only explain if you have ever looked for mobile game cheats yourself. Those of you that never did, you will be amazed how easy it seems to find amazing cheat tools for all of the popular mobile games out there. The problem is, those cheat tools are all fake, and only designed to fool you. The operators of those websites want to make money off of you, and they do so by making you complete some random tasks, such as surveys, phone calls or downloads.

Once you have completed those tasks, the operators, or should we say, scammers, will earn a lot of money, while you supposedly should gain access to the cheat tools. Unfortunately, you will not gain access to any cheat tool, not any working ones at least. It is even very likely that you will just download nasty viruses, keyloggers or malware onto your computer, causing a lot of damage to your computer and the files on it. You should definitely stay away from such sites.

Toca Kitchen Gameplay Tips and Tricks

There is really no tips or tricks that I could give you for Toca Kitchen. The game does not have actual goals, other than the fact that you should simply have fun, while you are learning how to cook different kinds of meals. The game will not tell you what to cook, but the characters will show you that they want you to prepare the meals in a certain way. For example, they will not eat the fish raw, so you will have to fry it in a pan and make sure that it is completely cooked.

You can find Toca Kitchen currently for free on Google Play Store, but normally, all of the Toca Boca games cost $2.99, both on Google Play Store and iOS App Store. There is a way to play the games without paying any money for them; however, this will require you to do several things first. If you have an Android phone, you simply have to use Google to find the Toca Kitchen APK files, download them and install them on your device. An iOS device first needs to be jail-broken for this trick to work; however, it is possible. This way, any paid game/app can be had for free.

Toca Kitchen Review

I have probably played and reviewed dozens of mobile children’s games over the last year, and while most of them are pretty decent, there are a lot of rotten apples between them as well. It is for this reason why I found Toca Kitchen to be an excellent game, because it managed to stick out between all of the low-quality children’s games. For starters, I first need to say that I found the gameplay to be pretty entertaining, especially because there are no strict rules, and you can simply take out all of the ingredients, prepare them however you would like and create a meal.

Toca Kitchen definitely has more positive aspects. The developers did not implement any kind of advertisement into Toca Kitchen. In fact, none of the games by developer Toca Boca has any ads in them. Their goal is to provide clean and entertaining games for children, and they do a pretty good job at that. I also found it nice that the developers did not implement any kind of playtime limitation system into Toca Kitchen, which allows children to play the game as long as they want to, and as often as they would like to. Toca Kitchen is definitely not a cheap cash grab game.

On top of all of this, Toca Kitchen also doesn’t have an in-game store, any in-game currencies or any in-game purchases. The game is not deceptive to children, and doesn’t try to make parents spend a lot of money on the game. This is one of those aspects that makes Toca Kitchen a very high-quality mobile children’s game, because most other children’s games are quite deceptive in their motives, and they basically scream out that they’re trying to earn money in-game sales.

You do need to keep in mind that apparently, all of the Toca Boca games cost $2.99. This is both on Google Play Store and iOS App Store, but for some reason, Toca Kitchen is free to download and play on Google Play Store only. A three-dollar price tag on a high-quality mobile game like Toca Kitchen might be worth it, but I do wish the developers would add a little bit more content to the game. Right now, there are only four characters, and a small amount of items/appliances.

Toca Kitchen Ratings

Artwork: I give Toca Kitchen an 8/10 for its artwork. Toca Kitchen definitely has high-quality art in it, much better than most other mobile children’s games that I had the pleasure of reviewing. I found the four character designs to be very detailed, and I love the fact that they are not just sitting still, but are actually animated to move around a bit, open their mouths and actually eat the food that you cook for them. I also liked the designs of all of the ingredients and items. All in all, Toca Kitchen is visually very appealing, and definitely is very appropriate for young children.

Music & SFX: I give Toca Kitchen an 8/10 for its music and SFX. Just like the artwork, the music and sound effects in Toca Kitchen are of very high quality as well. I really found the soft touch of the soundtracks to be very fitting to the general gameplay. The sound effects definitely enhance the gameplay. For example, I like the fact that you hear sizzling sounds whenever you frying an ingredient, or the fact that you hear a “ding” sound when the microwave is done spinning. The soundtracks and sound effects, combined with the graphics, make for a very nice mobile game.

Story & Originality: I give Toca Kitchen an 8/10 for its story and originality. As I have mentioned above, I have probably played and reviewed dozens of mobile children’s games, and while most of them were pretty decent, there are a lot of them that were really bad. Fortunately, I did not yet play or review a children’s cooking game, which makes Toca Kitchen very original for me. On top of that, the features in Toca Kitchen are simply quite unique, and very fitting. Toca Kitchen does not have a story in it, but the story of the game is that you are a young and aspiring cook.

General Gameplay: I give Toca Kitchen a 7/10 for general gameplay. I found the gameplay in Toca Kitchen to be quite entertaining, even if it is a children’s game; however, it would have been nice if the developers added more content to the game. I would have liked to see more characters, as well as a larger selection of ingredients that you could cook meals with, as well as more items and kitchen appliances. Right now, the gameplay feels a bit rushed, and that’s never a good sign. Expanding the gameplay will also make more children come back to play more.

Addictiveness: I give Toca Kitchen a 7/10 for addictiveness. Due to the fact that Toca Kitchen lacks content, I did not really find the game to be overly addictive, but it definitely will spark the interest of a lot of children. The game has not been downloaded over ten million times without a reason, right? The addictiveness does increase due to the fact that the game doesn’t have any advertisements in it, nor does it have any playtime limitation systems, which is always very nice.

All things considered, I give Toca Kitchen an 8/10.
