Yep, that’s correct @gboerner. The creditor must report the new balance to the credit bureaus in order for the new utilization level to be reflected. So if you paid down a balance right after the creditor’s reporting date, you might have to wait some weeks to see the effect on your credit score.
I’ve gotten in the habit of making weekly payments on my main credit card, so utilization will be on the low side whenever Visa reports to the bureaus. I’m hoping this “pay as you go” method also helps keep my spending in check, so I don’t get an unpleasant shock when I get the monthly bill.
