Comparison shopping is key to getting cheap car insurance in Arkansas. Policies with the same coverage options can have very different prices depending on the insurer, so settling for the first estimate you get might mean losing out on a better deal elsewhere.

To help you get a better picture of Arkansas car insurance, cheatgame.info looked at rates from the nine largest companies in the state. Below you’ll find the three most affordable options for common driver types.

Cheapest for good drivers

Geico had the lowest rates we saw in Arkansas for good drivers with good credit, at $88 per month, on average. State Farm and Shelter were second and third, respectively.

For this calculation, cheatgame.info averaged rates for 40-year-old men and women with a clean driving record and good credit. With the exception of age, a large portion of drivers are closest to this profile, which carries standard "full coverage" insurance, including state-required coverage.

Cheapest for drivers with poor credit

Geico had the lowest car insurance rates we found for Arkansas drivers with spotty credit histories, at $140 per month, on average. Nationwide and Shelter also made the list.

Poor credit can have a bigger effect on car insurance premiums than even a DUI conviction or a recent accident. To calculate these figures, cheatgame.info averaged rates for 40-year-olds with a clean driving record, poor credit as reported to their insurer, and standard "full coverage" insurance.

Cheapest for drivers with one at-fault crash

State Farm had the cheapest auto insurance rates we saw for Arkansans with a recent at-fault accident on their records, at $106 per month, on average. Farm Bureau and Nationwide round out the cheapest three.

To get these figures, we averaged rates for 40-year-olds with one recent at-fault crash and the typical "full coverage" insurance. Your rates will remain high for three to five years after you cause an accident or have a moving violation. If you fall into this category, be sure to shop for new insurance rates just after the three-year and five-year anniversaries of your infraction.

Cheapest for low-mileage drivers

State Farm had the cheapest auto insurance prices we found for Arkansans who drive few annual miles, at $80 per month, on average. Geico and Shelter also make the cut, both coming within $10 per month of the cheapest rate, on average.

Whether you're retired, work at home or often use public transportation, you may be able to get cheaper car insurance simply because you drive less. The rates above are for 40-year-olds with typical "full coverage" insurance and a clean driving record who drive 5,000 miles per year instead of the standard 12,000.

Cheapest for minimum coverage

Geico had the best rates we saw for minimum coverage car insurance in Arkansas, at $26 per month, on average. State Farm and Farm Bureau round out the list.

We calculated these numbers by averaging rates for 40-year-old good drivers who have only the minimum mandatory insurance in their state. Such light coverage isn't typically recommended, since it might not cover all the bills resulting from a car accident, but it's better than nothing — especially if you can't afford much more.

If you’re an active military member or veteran — or are an immediate family member of someone who is — chances are you’ll get a good rate with USAA, an option that isn’t available to the general public. For that reason, we don’t rank it against others within the driver types, but USAA offers the cheapest auto insurance rates for every driver type above.

Minimum required auto insurance in Arkansas

Arkansas car insurance policies must include:

  • $25,000 bodily injury liability per person.
  • $50,000 bodily injury liability per incident.
  • $25,000 property damage liability per incident.

If you ever cause a crash, liability insurance pays for other people’s injuries and property damage, up to your limit. The minimum limits in Arkansas might not cover costs after an expensive car accident, so consider buying more coverage.

See cheatgame.info’s guide to minimum car insurance requirements by state.

Alternative car insurance in Arkansas

If you’re labeled a high-risk driver because of past crashes, DUIs or other factors, you may have trouble getting auto insurance on the traditional market. As an alternative, you can apply for a policy through the Arkansas Automobile Insurance Plan.
