Overall

4.0

London-based Barclays provides services to 48 million people worldwide. Its U.S. banking operation, which is primarily online, offers excellent annual percentage yields on savings accounts and certificates of deposit — but it doesn’t offer a checking account.

Barclays also lacks an extensive U.S. branch network, so it’s best suited for consumers who prefer a hands-off approach to saving money. But if you value high savings rates, you might be able to overlook these limitations.

5.0

With low fees and some of the highest interest rates around, Barclays is the bank to boost your savings. The Online Savings account pays 2.20% APY and has a tool for setting savings goals. There are no monthly fees or minimum balance requirements.

Most banks charge $30 or more for overdraft fees, but Barclays has only a $5 nonsufficient funds fee, charged if an online transfer would overdraw your account.

Don't Do it
I made 2 payment to this account on 3/22/19 one in the amount of $150 and one in the amount of $368.60. Both has been credited to the account. I have been trying since 3/24/19 to have the 2nd payment of $368.60 returned to may account since it was not intended for Barclay. A case was opened on 3/24/19 PYT0093019. I've been given 6 different response, by 2 agents and 1 manager and hung up on 2 times already today. I need this resolved ASAP. The international customer service line is not helpful at all and do not since to understand the issue or how to get the issue resolved. On 3/24/2019 agent said 7-10 days for a resolve, then stated my bank add to initiate the refund and ended with he could open a case for the duplicate payment to be refunded to me. 4/8/19 agent said there was a final resolution, but I had to wait 7-10 days to get the information in the mail. When question on the resolution she placed me on hold then said it's ongoing investigation and will take 25 business days for a resolve. Transferred to Acct Manager, says who says the bank as to initiate the refund and when I advised I had already spoke w/the bank who advised that Barclay has to send the funds back to my acct she advised that she would reach out to the back office team, who I am not able to speak with or I can just leave the funds on the acct and continue making my monthly payments. When I asked to speak with someone over her of course no one is available but can request a manger callback for 24-48. This is unacceptable. I asked to speak with someone in the US and refused as well. I’ve since called back got an agent who advised that she could get me to someone in the US. She transferred me to an agent who advised my account was flagged for a manager callback but advised that he would transfer to some in the OH office, since no one previously available to speak with me. Agent, then hung up on me. Last person I spoke with after an hour of being passed around and getting the bank on the line advised... my funds will not be returned, even though they could see 2 payment on the same day for 2 different amounts because the account has a balance, even though the account is current, has never received a late payment and always pay slightly over what is due, everytime... $368.60 was more than slight over payment it was a payment not meant for this bill, period and they REFUSE to return the funds to me.. ROBBERY!!!
